Phonics Stories, Advanced Long and Short Vowel Patterns

About Phonics Stories, Advanced Long and Short Vowel Patterns

Phonics Stories, Advanced Long and Short Vowel Patterns is appropriate for intermediate beginner readers and students of all abilities who are learning to read or receiving reading intervention for dyslexia. Nine stories systematically introduce long e (ie and y), long i (igh, y), long o (ow, ol), long u (ew, oo), short e (ea), short i (y), short o (a, au, aw, al), and short u (a, o). A phonics word study accompanies each story, allowing students the opportunity to study and practice spelling words with the phonics pattern(s) from each story. After each phonics story, the author, Laurie Hunter, has written a letter about the theme of the story. Her letters are intended to be read by a parent or instructor. This gives students opportunities to engage and interact with the author and instructor and to discuss important SEL topics such as collaborating with others, overcoming inabilities, dealing with conflict and negative emotions, understanding figurative language, judging and responding to others, and appreciating caregivers. Laurie Hunter integrates character development into all her stories. Laurie Hunter earned her master's in education from The University of Texas at Austin and has taught children of all abilities how to read using this systematic reading instruction since 2005.
