This book presents the managed aquifer recharge, also called MAR, as state of the art in the Middle East and North Africa. Renewable groundwater resources are scarce in the majority of the MENA countries. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) area is often regarded as the world's most water-scarce region. The MENA region consists of eighteen countries covering an area of approximately 12 million km2. The population of MENA countries is around 6% of the world's population, but its water resources are four times lower. Aquifer recharge plays an essential role in adequately allocating recovered water into the groundwater storage capacity, recovering overexploited groundwater, and improving groundwater quality. MAR may help minimize flood mitigation and flood hazard by harvesting floodwater using storage dams, which allows it to replenish the underlying groundwater aquifer while simultaneously lowering flood risks to downstream areas. MAR has the potential to be a crucial water management strategy to promote groundwater storage in arid and semiarid regions as MENA region. This book explores several themes, including the status of the applications of the MAR in MENA countries, strategies for the MAR in MENA countries, MAR methods and assessments, the economics of using MAR in the MENA region, sustainability of the MAR in MENA countries, environmental risk management, and relevant applications of remote sensing and GIS techniques for the managed aquifer recharge. This book presents various strategies for the managed aquifer recharge in the MENA countries to help them achieve their sustainability agenda 2030.

This book addresses the transformation of primary education in the former Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) after the fall of the communist regime in 1989. It follows the overall transformation of education and school policy and offers original insights into the everyday life of the schools at that time. It also provides a unique perspective on the whole transformation process. The work discusses the school environment in the context of specific local characteristics, such as parents, community, regional institutions, and national and international contexts. The book specifically focuses on the changes in primary school management in terms of economics, organization, and personnel. The processes of pedagogical change are an essential theme of the book. They cover how teachers proceeded through the changes in their work at the time of the transformation and the reasons for their resistance to change, including the challenges that the transformation introduced into their work and personal lives. The book also monitors how the teachers navigated the selection and use of new textbooks and tools, such as digital tools. The work originates in historical-pedagogical research, based primarily on the oral history method and complemented by the study of contemporary documents.

This book is a gentle introduction for all those wishing to learn about modern views of the cosmos. Our universe originated in a great explosion - the big bang. For nearly a century cosmologists have studied the aftermath of this explosion: how the universe expanded and cooled down, and how galaxies were gradually assembled by gravity. The nature of the bang itself has come into focus only relatively recently. It is the subject of the theory of cosmic inflation, which was developed in the last few decades and has led to a radically new global view of the universe. Students and other interested readers will find here a non-technical but conceptually rigorous account of modern cosmological ideas - describing what we know, and how we know it. One of the book's central themes is the scientific quest to find answers to the ultimate cosmic questions: Is the universe finite or infinite? Has it existed forever? This open access book analyzes how sound choices can be made in Dutch health care policies, and shows why they are necessary, urgent, and even inevitable. Analyzing the current functioning and funding of the Dutch health care system, this book shows how three dimensions of sustainability - financial, staffing and societal - are under increasing pressure. This study explores priority setting in health care and calls for well-informed, clear and sometimes uncompromising choices in the allocation of means and personnel. This is necessary in order to maintain accessible and high-quality care for all, and to improve public health. Making balanced choices in health care is of particular importance to vulnerable groups whose voices may not be heard as readily or effectively in the public debate, and whose interests are more easily crowded out. Prioritizing in the domain of public health care is first and foremost a political responsibility, but also one for health care providers across the system and ultimately also for citizens. While this work focuses on the Netherlands, similar processes are at play across the developed economies, making it broadly relevant to policy makers, health care professionals and health care (policy) researchers grappling with the questions surrounding the sustainability of public health care.

The purpose of this work is to focus mathematical modeling on issues affecting women¿s health. Working in six collaborative teams, researchers developed new mathematical models to address questions in a range of application areas. Fractures of the scapula are usually associated with high-energy trauma and its management has deeply changed in the last decade. This book presents the essential characteristics of the different satellite motions. Satellite motions can be classified as anomalistic, draconitic, tropical, Hansen-, Kepler-, meridional, Sun-synodical, Moon-synodical motion, depending on the relevant reference point. When two of these types of motions (in some cases even more than two) are coupled, satellite orbits are obtained, which are called equivalence orbits in this book. They share the special properties of the different coupled motions and are therefore of particular interest in the selection of special satellite orbits.In the book the author calculates mean equivalence orbits with secular perturbation formulas, as well as true equivalence orbits considering a complete orbit model including periodic motion effects. Some of the equivalence orbits can be determined unambiguously and with extremely high accuracy, they are stable in the long term. Others can only be found with low accuracy and reduced stability. The author investigates all possible combinations and the associated general equations of condition are derived in each case. Some well-known families of satellite orbits, such as the Sun-synchronous orbits, can be interpreted as mean equivalence orbits. The study of their stability is of great interest in orbit mechanics. Special applications and numerous numerical examples, graphical representations of all possible ranges of the Kepler elements, and detailed studies of the stability of particularly important equivalence orbits are carried out using the Brouwer orbit model as well as the modification by Eckstein.This lays the foundation for possible refinements using arbitrary extended orbital models and for possibly required orbital corrections. Numerous problems are to deepen the treated topics and/or to stimulate for further investigations.The book will be of interest to Astrodynamics and Aerospace Engineers as well as graduate students studying satellite orbits.

This textbook arises from a master's course taught by the author at the University of Coimbra. It takes the reader from the very classical Galois theorem for fields to its generalization to the case of rings. Given a finite-dimensional Galois extension of fields, the classical bijection between the intermediate field extensions and the subgroups of the corresponding Galois group was extended by Grothendieck as an equivalence between finite-dimensional split algebras and finite sets on which the Galois group acts. Adding further profinite topologies on the Galois group and the sets on which it acts, these two theorems become valid in arbitrary dimension. Taking advantage of the power of category theory, the second part of the book generalizes this most general Galois theorem for fields to the case of commutative rings. This book should be of interest to field theorists and ring theorists wanting to discover new techniques which make it possible to liberate Galois theory from its traditional restricted context of field theory. It should also be of great interest to category theorists who want to apply their everyday techniques to produce deep results in other domains of mathematics.
