There are some issues of the heart that often go undealt with for many years. Rejection is one of them. Rejection is like a poison to the soul. It maliciously eats away at a person's self-esteem, self-worth and self-identity. We can experience the rejection from others (divorce, job or friend/family) or even impose self-rejection from shame or guilt. The truth is, all of us at one point in our lives have been the object of rejection. It often stings when it occurs, but we get over it. However, there is some rejection that digs into the core of your heart that leaves feelings of worthlessness, anger, bitterness or defensiveness. People who are rejected, reject others as a defense mechanism. Even Jesus was rejected by his disciples and religious leaders. However, it is through the redeeming love of God that we are made whole. Overcome rejection, one scripture at a time, through this 30-day scripture writing journal. Write the Word, listen to the Word and pray the Word.
Researchers say that one in three adults will experience some type of anxiety disorder at some point in their life. It you happen to be one those people, there is hope and healing; and it can be found in the Word of God. In the early summer of 2017, I began to experience chest pains and shortness of breath that eventually lead to me spending hours in the ER, doctor's office and undergoing a series of tests. Each test came back with positive outcomes and the concluded diagnosis was stress and anxiety. Of the many ways anxiety can manifest itself for me it was in the form of cardiovascular issues. Once I realized what was going on, I was determined to not let anxiety cripple my life and impede my purpose. I became more intentional about my eating and exercise habits, and most importantly, I sought out the Word of God.Overcome anxiety one scripture at a time through this 30-day scripture writing journal. This journal provides four sections a day to write from the provided scripture:Write - As you write the Word of God, allow it to penetrate your heart and mind afresh, even if it is a familiar scripture.Listen - Listen to your heart, good, bad or indifferent and simply write. Then listen to the heart of God through that scripture and/or in that moment and write what you hear or what you understand from that scripture.Pray - Next, take a moment to reconcile your heart and thoughts with God's words, then write a prayer from your heart. Acknowledge who God is and where you are, thanking and asking God for what you need in that moment. My Affirmation - At the end of each entry write a personal affirmation. Take it a step further, put it on a post-it note, your cell phone screen, or make it your daily hashtag on social media. Speak it, and repeat it until you feel a difference in your spirit.
As believers in Christ, we know that God is a refuge for us or a place that we can go and be safe. When we are in a relationship with God, we seek to be in the presence of God and abide, live or dwell with God. But can God be a dwelling place in your heart and in your life -- in EVERY season of your life? Can God move into your heart, your mind, and your Spirit permanently? We make space for God, occasionally, but to dwell means to occupy the space. When God dwells in you, God is able to move freely through you and empower you to do what God has called you to do. Being a dwelling place for the Almighty God means that we are not controlled by our fleshly nature, or easily moved by the winds of life's trials. In order to become a dwelling place for the Spirit of God to live in us, it requires obedience and intentionality on self-work, our prayer life, devotional time and quality time with God.

Today, there is a disconnection between the youth and the leadership of the church. With fewer and fewer young people attending church, a hole has been created in the membership where the young people used to be. With that, we are also seeing a growing generation gap in churches that impact leadership and how youth are and are not transitioning into leadership at the local level. How can we keep a steady group of leaders being developed in the local church? This book is a history, of sorts, of African American youth ministry in the US. We use the brush of the past to be able to re-invigorate the current leadership development within African American churches in general, and Seventh Day Adventist churches specifically. It is my intention that by reading this book you will be equipped with a strategy to develop young adult leadership that not only works in the SDA church but will work in every context where there are people who want to develop leaders.

If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer." -Proverbs 9:10-12, NIVConventional wisdom is the belief that what the majority ascribes to is correct. History challenges the success rate of this populace notion of wisdom. Sometimes it is wrong. Millions believed the thought that the earth was flat. Drawing upon the wit, wisdom, and style of his late grandfather, Dr. Fred Batten Jr., uses this devotional to pass on the practical wisdom that will deepen love for God and one another. As humans, we have difficulty with the twists and turns of life from one generation to the next. This devotional, while acknowledging the disconnect between the mature and less experienced believers, draws upon practical wisdom within the framework of Christian faith.Today's generations live on different planets. Let's close the gap. Written with each generation in mind, this book will benefit multiple generations. Unlike other devotionals with 30, 40 or 90-day entries, this devotional supersedes the normal route of a start and finish time. Read at your leisure, it will enhance your morning or evening quiet time with God. You can read it as a part of a prayer group, small group or a discussion starter to ignite conversation among generations. The purpose and goal of this book is to stimulate a dialogue between Christians and God, as well as to open the channels of sharing wisdom from generation to generation. Throughout the many transitions of life, it stands to reason that everyone needs a little bit of daily encouragement. In one day, you could experience countless emotions that can cause you to feel alone, and discouraged, as if no one knows or cares what you are going through. In scripture, the number 40 often represents a time of testing, difficulty, or trouble. When Jesus fasted for 40 days, he was tempted, but He came through stronger than before. Pastor Noah Washington has done a fantastic job of providing spiritual and biblical encouragement in a contemporary way for this and the emerging generation. This 40-day devotional takes a fresh, light-hearted approach to the Bible while providing words of encouragement to the soul. As you read this book over the next 40 days, there is no question that you will not only be encouraged but also able to encourage others.
We all know the Church has been around for centuries and everyone has their concept or definition of Church. However, Millennials are leaving the Church in record numbers. Emerging generations are beginning to see the Church as being either irrelevant or not seeing their role within it. Church is being "sold" as a weekly event in a building and people are no longer "buying" it. Do we have a marketing problem with Church or a credible misunderstanding of what it is all together? What is the Church really and how do we fit in?In this book, we will explore: what God intended the Church to be, how people fit into the Church and most importantly, how the Church fits into our daily lives.Use this book for personal or small group study and truly discover what the Church is and how we all fit in.
