Royal Air Force Hereford Supply Trade Trainees

About Royal Air Force Hereford Supply Trade Trainees

Clem Harrison is posted to RAF Hereford after his successful basic training at RAF Swinderby in 1976, and he finds the changes quite an eye opener. The bull is not as bad but there is still an element of discipline, and of course there are WRAFs at RAF Hereford. This story tells of Clem's training in supply and how he gets on with the other trainees, who are hell bent on getting drunk every night. Clem at seventeen years is amazed at how much alcohol is sunk by his colleagues, and how they manage to get through the day in the training room, but when he turns eighteen, later on in the course he realises that the booze is a saviour. Then there is Corporal McCauley, who is a keen sportsman, and paces the roads of Hereford at five o'clock in the morning, but his energy helps the trainees come to terms with the theory and practical and he is a keen stickler for discipline and time keeping. Clem finds that the camaraderie between him and his colleagues plays an important part in his supply trade training, and which will stay with him for the rest of his life.
