About Shadpadee Stotram / ஷட்பதீ ஸ்தோத்ரம்

This is a hymn of lord Vishnu (Naarayana) sung by the great teacher of Advaita school. Shree Shankara Bhagavadpaada. The hymn is called shadpadee stotram because it is comprised of six verses of prayer to lord Vishnu for devotion, wisdom and liberation. The word shadpadee means a text which has six padas (verses) and it also means a bee because a bee has six feet. The meter used in this hymn is like the dancing movements of a bee towards a fragrant nectarous flower. The work is a poetic work using rhythmic, rhyming words and same words used in different places to mean differently. Aachaarya Bhagavatpaada compares his mind with a bee and lord's holy feet with divine flowers. This book is an effort to give you the word by word meaning, anvaya krama - the poetic text turned in to prose order and the explanation of the verses. The explanations of the meaning of the names of lord Vishnu used in these shlokas are explained according to Adi Shankaraachaarya's commentary of Vishnu sahasranaama. (Thousand names of Vishnu from Mahaabhaarata)
