Skin lesions due to Leishmaniasis

About Skin lesions due to Leishmaniasis

Leishmaniasis is one of the nine most important tropical diseases worldwide, due to its morbidity and mortality, with 1.5 to 2 million new cases per year, and is considered a serious public health problem. It is caused by an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite of the genus Leishmania, transmitted by vectors of the genus Lutzomya. In Ecuador it is an endemic disease of obligatory reporting since 2005, it is considered a public health problem due to its dispersed distribution, mainly prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions of Ecuador, both in the Amazon, Coast and inter-Andean valleys. It is characterized by presenting dermatological lesions predominantly in exposed body areas such as the face, neck and extremities. A descriptive documentary design was carried out by searching for information in scientific articles and other relevant scientific journals. Also with data published in the pages of the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador and the National Institute of Public Health and Research (INSPI) for their respective analysis.
