Stratford Boy

About Stratford Boy

A play for ve women set in Stratford in 1582. Lady Lucy is portrayed as a kneeling child on her parents' tomb at Tenbury, and also in effigy with her more notorious husband at Charlcote. Sir Thomas Lucy was a time-server and a persecutor of Catholics, responsible for a number of executions, including several members of Mary Shakespeare's (Arden) family in 1584. He was said to have been the cause of Shakespeare leaving Stratford, and he was almost certainly the butt of Shakespeare's wit as Justice Shallow. Was he a man to rely on for the truth? Or was his praise of his wife's virtues only the fashion of the age?
