Tang Poetry Appreciation Vol 1

Tang poetry refers to poetry written in or around the time of or in the characteristic style of China's Tang dynasty, and/or follows a certain style, often considered as the Golden Age of Chinese poetry. (Wikipedia) Literature can reflect reality, express the inner movements of the soul, and develop a person's own literary talent. It is the realm of culture which uses words as symbols to create art, Within this realm, poetry uses rich, succinct language, natural, melodious rhymes, and an ingenious plot to create the cream of literature. And of all forms of ancient Chinese poetry, T'ang poetry is the greatest. 文学作品可以反映外在现实生活，抒发内心灵活动，展现个人才华，是民族文化中以文字为符号来创选艺术的领域。其中诗歌以学浓缩精炼的语言，自然和谐的音韵，精巧的构思，更成为文学创作的精萃 ，而唐诗则是我国古典诗歌中最光辉灿烂的一页。 Concerning explanation of the poems, we used very simple language in the vernacular Chinese translation. This should allow the reader to understand easily. We have also remained as faithful as possible to the original meaning, keeping the translation free from our own ideas, in order to allow the reader to enjoy the poem as it was originally written. When analyzing the test, we were forced, due to space limitations, to be brief. However, we still hope that our readers can understand the poet's background, his motive in writing the poem, and the technique with which he uses words, and from this that they will appreciate the poem's greatness and originality. Along with an explanation of the text, we have accompanied each poem with a picture, in order that the beauty of the pictures might enhance the effect of the language. 在文字解说方面，白言语译要求用字浅白，使读者容易明了，并尽量忠实表达作者的原意，不掺杂个人主观的心意，使读者能真正欣赏到诗的原貌。赏析文字由于篇幅有限，只能力求精简，但仍然要能使读者了解作者的背景、动机及文字运用的技巧，从而领味诗作最精采的部和匠心独具的创意。除了文字的说明外，我们还借重图片的配合，让视觉的美感来增加文字传递的效果。We hope that this book of T'ang Poetry will serve as a bridge between overseas Chinese youth and T'ang poems. We hope that it will allow the youth to transcend time and space and overcome the limitations of language, and give them a glimpse of the profundity of T'ang poetry. 希望这本唐诗欣赏能作为海外华裔子弟与唐诗之间的一座桥梁，使他们能超越时空、文字的限制，一窥唐诗的堂奥。
