Although Stuart Cumberland (1857-1922) was a well-known mind-reader, he was also a fierce critic of fraudulent spiritualist practices. He explained his own success by his ability to read muscles - not the supernatural - and aimed to uncover dishonest mediums in this work, published in 1918.
