The Alternation & The Confusion

About The Alternation & The Confusion

The Alternation and The Confusion are two German plays that until now have not been published. Printed in English and German, the plays are a tribute to their late writer, Gerhard Waizmann. The Alternation" A play about a seemingly idealistic poet who wants to overthrow the dictator, Terra the Supreme Wise. As the play progresses it becomes apparent the poet is only presenting his humanitarian values - and his love for Terra's helper and paramour - to further his own ends. In alliance with the Council of Wise Men, the poet ultimately succeeds in becoming dictator himself. "The Confusion"The play has many episodes, in each of which a dialogue represents the core of the episode. The dialogues take place between different characters and is a collage of individually coherent, but overall unrelated, episodes. The play becomes a description of self-centered, non-conversing conversations, which is underlined by the subtitle making reference to the confusion of language during the building of the Tower of Babel.
