This marvelous and sensitive story is about an illiterate, orphaned twelve-year-old boy, as he navigates through the trials and tribulations of his young life, growing up as a colored child in the 1930 years.
At the age of seventeen he joined the Army to serve in World War II.
As it so often is, for many, the Military presented situations that were a challenge for the young soldier.
He faced the situations, both in life, and the Army with moral courage.
