The Gardener and The Spy

About The Gardener and The Spy

The industrial cities of the Midlands and the seaport cities of England were the targets of merciless bombing raids in both wars, and our first story wanders across those two major conflicts of our time, showing the skill of quiet but deadly spy craft. Although very much in harm's way, factory workers did their bit by day and were bombed by night, but one ordinary chap who found some solace in his vegetable patch was to find himself involved in darker activity. These works of fiction have been built around major events, some of which were not revealed until well after the war ended. In the case of the Slapton Sands debacle, secrecy was maintained till much later to prevent the lowering of morale ahead of the Normandy invasion. The black, grey and dusty atmosphere which prevailed at this time, and in these places, is revived to bring home to the reader the sad reality of war on the ordinary and the innocent, many of whom paid an awful price. The following post-war tales range from the sublime to the unlikely in a recovering world.
