John 8:31 gives us a clue as to why this is so important. It reads - "Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, if you CONTINUE in my word, THEN you are my disciples indeed." This teaches us that the only way to be a true and genuine disciple of Jesus is if we CONTINUE in his word.
