QUEEN ELIZABETH became the monarch before most of us, most of our mothers, and most of our grandparents were even born. She was a fixed point on a rotating axis. She was there whether you loved her or not. For 70 years, up to her passing at the age of 96, only three things seemed guaranteed in life: death, taxes, and the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
Throughout her reign as queen of the United Kingdom from 1952 until 2022, Elizabeth II had a largely positive reputation. She wore conservative clothing and was well known for wearing matching hats and overcoats in solid colors so she could stand out in a crowd. As part of her public duty, she frequently attended cultural events. Horse racing, photography, and dogs, particularly her Pembroke Welsh corgis, were some of her favorite pastimes. Much speculation around her opinions on politics and other topics. She had never granted a newspaper interview and was not generally known for airing private ideas.
