The System of the Stars

The System of the Stars (1890), a non-technical survey of sidereal astronomy in the nineteenth century, contains some of the earliest published astrophotographs. The work is important today in the context of the nineteenth-century intellectual debates on the relationship between the sciences and religious belief.
