The Well-Beaten Path

Sophie returns to her grandparents'' lake house. They both had been long since gone. Her aunt Linda was here till three weeks ago. She looks out over the lake, and seven years of memories flood over her.
The love of her life used to live up that path. She wondered, Is he still around? Where has life taken him? It took her down a wrong path. Here she is, coming back at twenty-three, widowed, and almost eight months pregnant. If he was still here, it would be painful to see him with someone else. Yet Sophie wanted to raise Abby Grace here on this lake. She hesitated, then up the beaten path she went on a warm day in August.
