- Encouragement for Down Syndrome

About Through Her Eyes

Through Her Eyes: Encouragement for Down Syndrome looks at life through the eyes of Loretta Lambert, a girl with Down syndrome. Loretta receives enormous encouragement from her family, which includes her mother, father, brother, and sister. Their love and reassurance help her overcome the many hurdles she faces. A genetic disorder that occurs in one of about every 700 babies in the United States, Down syndrome appears with a distinct facial look, physical disabilities, and developmental delays. If you've ever wondered what life is like for someone with the disorder, this realistic novel is based on the author growing up with an older sister who had Down syndrome, plus a tremendous amount of research. John Burns, Ph.D., has three adult children and lives in Dallas. He suffers from a neurological disease that rendered him with poor balance and coordination, and now spends a great deal of time in a wheelchair waiting for a cure or a treatment. Dr. Burns received a B.S. in medical technology, spending the majority of his career in medical labs. After retiring due to his disability, he is now pursuing his long-time passion for writing. He also furthered his education, receiving an MBA in health care administration and a doctorate in biblical interpretation. This is his sixth book.
