Tyler's Promised Gift

This story was awarded the distinguished and prestigious "Mom's Choice Award Honoring Excellence". Tyler, the rabbit notices a red car in a toy store window, and asks his mother to buy it for him. His mother agrees to buy it on condition that he behaves like a good rabbit until his birthday. Tyler obeyed all his mother's requests daily. When his birthday finally arrived, he was delighted to receive the red car. However, a younger guest at his birthday party was sad and crying because he had no toy with which to play. Tyler heroically offers the young guest his new red car. Tyler concludes that giving away his precious gift makes him feel more proud and much happier than his having kept it for himself. The younger guest to whom he gave his beautiful red car had a much greater need for it than Tyler had. This birthday celebration not only made Tyler count one more added year to his age, but realized that in his heart he had become more compassionate and with a bigger capacity to love. Author M. C.
