Tyr the Viking

About Tyr the Viking

A book to start conversations with children about tough emotions and feelings. Tyr the Viking is about a Viking that doesn't want to acknowledge what he feels; but he quickly learns that ignoring them is not the best way. This book tackles avoidance of experiences and feelings, trying to help children understand that it is not wise to 'bottle things up'. Created in collaboration with child psychologists, to ensure accurate and helpful information for adults/guardians. This book should be used as a tool to help start and open children to conversations around these feelings and experiences. Expressing yourself can be confronting and scary, so this book aims to step through giving multiple hints and references. Going through the scenario at different stages, showing that there are multiple points where Tyr could have acknowledged what he was feeling and addressed them. When things reach their peak, and everything comes out, Tyr acknowledges what has happened and takes responsibility for his behaviour. Then aligning his words and actions, he does what he can to make it right. Tyr the Viking is part of a series of SEL picture books, based on a group of children all living in the same village who are faced with situations that they learn from.
