Urticaria

Urticarial, more popularly known as hives, is a skin disorder characterized by the abrupt onset of wheals or welts that are red, elevated, and irritating. The size and appearance of these welts can change rapidly, sometimes within just a few hours. Chronic urticaria lasts more than six weeks, while acute urticaria lasts anywhere from a few hours to six weeks. An allergic reaction to something like food, medication, insect stings, or environmental variables is usually what sets it off. Urticaria can also occur for no apparent reason in certain people. The disorder is the result of histamine and other chemicals being released in the skin, causing to the distinctive itching and welts. Medication, such as antihistamines, may be used to treat symptoms and get to the bottom of what's causing them.
