Books condition was exactly as described. Very interesting look at the overall history of the Norse peoples during the Viking age and their interactions on a large scale with the surrounding lands and people especially England and France. Charlemagne even makes an appearance.
This story is delightful in every way. I love all the characters -- even the bad guys. They are so real, so vividly drawn. Ritter understands the life, the customs, and the worldview of the Vikings like nobody else. I can feel the wind and hear the stones. I love the depiction of the Althing as a big annual marketplace. I'd always vaguely thought of it as just an assembly of representatives. I read this one so quickly, always looking forward to the end of the day so I could dive back into it. It's a good thing there are two more!!
