Zephyr the Corgi Broom Slayer

About Zephyr the Corgi Broom Slayer

When his Momma brings out the broom to clean the floor, Zephyr the Corgi wants to protect her from the evil monster he fears will attack her. Instead, he learns a few valuable lessons about open-mindedness, thoughtfulness, and why it's important not to rush to judgement. What will this fun-sized and furry broom slayer do? It's time to find out! Young readers will also explore learning concepts and practice vocabulary and critical thinking skills through Corgisations, a study that encourages children to apply principles found in the IB (International Baccalaureate) Program. The author and illustrator of this story, Bella Vry, initially created this book as a fifteen-year-old student for a class project. She spent many months writing the story and drawing the illustrations. When Bella finally presented her story to teachers, fellow students, and their parents, they reacted with a touching enthusiasm begging her to publish it so that they could buy a copy. As Bella's mom, Becca Vry, witnessed their reactions and listened to their questions during Bella's presentation of her project, she was struck by the complex questions and observations the children made following the reading of the story. Realizing how many "teaching moments" existed as the children's questions unfolded in the post-project discussion after the presentation, Becca grew inspired to compose a study guide based on the children's reactions and the ten IB attributes encouraging all learners to become: balanced, caring, communicators, inquirers, knowledgeable, open-minded, principled, risk-takers, thinkers and reflective. This combination of a children's story and IB centric learning guide encourages a broad range of intellectual engagement and development. By joining Zephyr on his broom slaying adventure and applying critical-thinking skills to the themes and plot of the story, Bella and Becca hope that learners of all ages will practice this important life skill of reflection, welcoming opportunities of open-mindedness, and improving communicativeness, which will contribute to personal growth and help lead all learners on to future academic success. Zephyr the Corgi can't wait to share his adventure and lessons with you!
