This story of how I came to study History at Portsmouth Polytechnic in the 1970s and what life was really like for students back then - the wild parties, the drugs, the sex, the motorcycles, the bands, the girls, the beaches - the poverty, the cold, the terrible digs, the unhappy neighbours, the hard work, the arrests, the loneliness, the hitch-hiking, and the daily fight for the bathroom.
