"Kalaimamani" and "Sangeet Natak Academy" Awardee, Bharatham Shri S Natarajan, needs no introduction. Melattur means Bhagavatha Mela and Bhagavatha Mela means Bharatham Shri S Natarajan. He started his career in Bhagavatha Mela as a child artist, rosed to play the leading female parts in most of the Bhagavathe Mela Dramas and continued the same vigiour till breathed his last. He dedicated his entire life for Bhagavatha Mela, which was part and parcel of his family tradition. But for him, this noble performing art would hae not come the global spotlight. In fact, he single handedly gave a huge transfermation to this art without deviating from the purity and the originality set by his predecessors. Melattur village, got an identity and address in the eyes and view of interational art lovers only because of him. As a reciprocative gesture to his home soil, he started a philontherepic dance school, for teaching Bharatha Natyam to young boys and girls of Melattur cutting across cast and religiion.
