First published in 1863, this work by Julia Kavanagh traces the contribution of English women writers from the seventeenth century to the development of the modern novel. Volume 2 contains biographical sketches and evaluates the work of Elizabeth Inchbald, Maria Edgeworth, Jane Austen, Amelia Opie and Lady Morgan.
