Eric Tabarly was one of yachting''s iconic figures who became a legend in French sailing from the moment he beat the British to win the second edition of the single-handed transatlantic in 1976. He would go on to race in the Sydney Hobart, The Fastnet Race and the Transpac, winning line honours in all three. In 1984 he was voted the most popular sports figure in France.
