It's a tale as old as time - an orphan, a slave, and an aerospace engineer walk into a bar. Okay, maybe not a bar. But definitely into an interstellar adventure full of danger and uncertainty. Two of them are aliens, or maybe the other one is the alien. Who knows, it all depends on your point of view.
Ortega is cursed with a power that's only useful to the powerful. She's spent her whole life hiding what she is, enduring every humiliation and disgrace needed to keep her secret safe. But someone's discovered what she's been hiding, and she's about to face a fate worse than death. In a moment of desperation, she calls out to her people's old gods for help, only to find they're not quite what she expected.
Meanwhile, humanity's first colony ship is hurtling towards a distant habitable world, and only Apollo Titan, engineer first class, can save them from certain doom. But the price of salvation might be too high, and what he's forced to sacrifice could doom them all anyway.
And then there's Zazel, a special boy who's been focused on finding out why his parents were taken from him and finding enough to eat. Little does he know that getting thrown into prison and forced to fight in brutal gladiatorial combat might just be the solution to both of those problems.
These three unlikely heroes each face incredible danger and long odds against their survival, but fate has brought them together. Maybe, just maybe, if they work together, they'll survive. But with monsters, mercenaries, and even gods standing in their way, the odds are stacked against them.
