St Thérèse of Lisieux was canonized in 1925 by Pope Pius XI, was declared patroness of foreign missions with St Francis Xavier in 1927, and in 1944 was declared protectoress of France with St Joan of Arc by Pope Pius XII. St Thérèse was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II in 1997.
