Abandoning a promising legal career, Barthelemy Faujas de Saint-Fond (1741-1819) chose instead to pursue his love of natural history. This work, published in 1784, provides detailed observations on a wide range of volcanic rocks, describing major identifying features and specifying locations of each variety.
