Island Tarle was very sure she was ready to die. But every soldier needs a mission.

She doesn't need friends, but the only person who could have been her friend, might be dead and it is her fault. The best she can do is focus on the mission to watch the Hendra and discover whether she is working for or against the Complex she leads.

With her memories of a battle long lost beginning to make sense, Isla is more interested in learning what she is and what she can do, rather than the mission she was set. Or perhaps the two are intertwined.

Gray's only hope is that Isla is alive somewhere. But he has no way to find her and even if he did, he has no idea what they are to do next. The Rohen is far more complex than either of them understood and it might want more than either of them can give.

To save their universe, Isla and Gray may have to learn to work with those they cannot trust. Is the way forward together, or are they being used for someone else's agenda?
