About Faces and Places That Live in My Heart

A collection of true stories that portray the struggles and triumphs of a poor country girl born in a log cabin and growing up during hard times after the Great Depression and through World War II. Between the covers of Faces and Places That Live in My Heart, you will meet a shy, tenderhearted little girl who strives to rise above the stigma of poverty. You will also be introduced to the people who loved, mentored and impacted her life. There were happy times when she received her first baby doll, visited relatives during the summer, and took a trip to the big city. Also, there were comforting times when caring neighbors came to her rescue during the darkest hours of her teenage life. Spanning from her birth, these stories paint a vivid picture of what it was like for a child to not have the finer things of life that she longed for. In spite of the tough times, Jeanette and her family were compelled to pull together and maintain courage. Through it all, she clung to the dream in her heart that someday life would change for the better. This is her story. Excerpt from a story titled, "Little Girl Lost." One by one, all the students climbed off the bus and arrived safely at their homes. Suddenly, I realized it was just the bus driver and me, a scared little six year old girl. The children were all gone. I thought the bus driver was headed home and had forgotten about me. Then, I saw a high bridge over some railroad tracks and decided I must be near home. I asked to get off. I just wanted to find my house and family after my first day at the new school. As the bus drove away, I realized I was all alone and terrified. I tried not to cry, as a voice in the back of my immature mind whispered for me to be brave. I thought if only I could hold out to walk far enough I would reach home. So, I continued on my journey in search of home and family. Jeanette, a wife, mother, and grandmother, is also the author of Pig Trails & Open Roads. She and John, her husband of 57 years, live on a farm where they enjoy a life of simplicity. Her desire is to encourage others and leave her legacy through the pages of this book.
