I read this prior to getting bariatric surgery. I was 291lbs. I wanted to understand how my habits were created and how I can change them. I contribute a huge portion of my successful weight loss and management to this book. Many bariatric patients regain the weight after the first 18 months. I am now 3 years post-op and haven't. I am now running 5ks. I don't think I could have done it without a such a deep understand of how the habit loop works. I have taken charge of so much of my life and made some major changes thanks to the science in this book. I recommended it to everyone. Forget self help books, just read this.
